3 Types of Content That Will Grow Your Blog or Podcast

Core content is the content we create that truly shapes our brand. Inside of the Social Method Society, we teach blogging, podcasting, and vlogging because I highly recommend business owners have a core content platform as part of their digital strategy.

The truth is that content marketing is undeniably the most effective marketing strategy of our time. If you think about it, you're probably already doing some form of content marketing for your business. Whether you’re creating content for Instagram and Facebook, sharing blog posts, writing captivating emails for your list, etc.

In some way, shape or form, I guarantee you're putting out content.

Now, the thing is… When your core content is done well it can take your business into a whole new realm of success.

That's right. I said it!

Behind every successful brand is a core content strategy that ensures your marketing efforts actually pay off. If you're interested in more information about the ins and outs of creating a robust content marketing strategy that converts, make sure you check out my podcast episode with Liz O'Donnell.

In today's podcast episode, I'm going to share three highly effective content ideas to help you grow your blog or podcast listenership.

Key Takeaways:

>> [1:16] It takes a lot of mindset work to be able to commit to publishing regular content. You begin to wonder if anyone is going to really read or listen. A lot of people start putting out content and then they stop because of various reasons.

>> [2:17] Today, I'm sharing three types of content that will help you overcome writer's blog and and actually see growth in your content source. These content ideas can really be applied to any niche.

>> [3:18] My first content idea is to create content that would position you as a teacher. For example, a step-by-step walkthroughs, recipes, how to tips, etc. The primary objective of this content is to help someone by teaching them.

>> [4:13] Remember that imposter syndrome seems to pop-up sometimes when you're teaching. Your mind will try to play tricks on you. This is your inner mean girl and you have to be aware that you don't need to be listening to this voice in your head. You're teaching back what you know because it worked for you and that's going to help your audience.

>> [6:48] My second content idea is to post an opinion piece. This content idea is not for the faint hearted.

Things You Should Know About Opinion Pieces

  • Opinion pieces have the ability to go viral.
  • It's easy to get around anyone with strong counter opinions by using a call-to-action to ask your followers to share their own opinion.
  • Use this content idea if you're passionate about getting your message out there, while ruffling a few feathers.
  • Also, opinion pieces don't always have to be controversial.

>> [9:35] My third and final content idea is the interview! This is a good one because it allows you the extra opportunity for cross promotion.

  • Put a call out to see if anyone would like to be interviewed on your podcast or blog.
  • Make sure you include what the mission of your blog/podcast is about, who is your audience, and who is the type of person you are looking for.
  • You could always just approach someone that you admire and ask them if you could interview them. Start small, initiate the conversation, and ask if they're interested in hearing more.

>> [11:28] Interview style content allows for cross promotion because that's the etiqutte when you feature someone! It allows you to introduce both parties to a new audience.

>> [11:56] The interview process does not have to be fancy. I recommend you start out with 5-8 questions and no more than that, so that your guest can give deeper responses.

>> [12:32] Make sure you give your guests some guidelines or criteria to work with. Put a word limit to each response and a deadline. You should also get a professional bio from them and a headshot. Send all of this as one email so that you're someone who is easy to work with.

>> [13:40] Use their bio to craft a really strong introduction and a powerful hook, so it makes readers want to keep reading or listening. At the end you want to wrap up with a clear CTA letting your readers and listeners know what they can do next.

WRAP UP
