MWH 553 : Why so many coaches are building memberships right now

I get asked this almost every week. A woman in my community, tired, fully booked, wondering if it is actually possible to build something that does not need all of her. So in this episode I am answering that with the most honest thing I have, my own week.

I work Monday to Thursday. I have had Fridays off since before I made a single dollar in my business. I take a week off every month, and I take December off entirely. None of that is a reward for success, it is the model I built from day one, and that model is a membership.

I walk through the three reasons I would tell any coach, creative or service provider to build a membership over a course or one-on-one work:

• Recurring revenue changes everything. A membership pays you at the start of the month whether you have launched or not, because you are not waiting to sell before you can serve.
• One offer means one message. Instead of spinning up new offers every time inspiration strikes, all of that creativity gets channelled into the membership itself, which keeps your marketing simple and your content unstuck.
• You can grow without sales calls. A live webinar launch a few times a year replaces a sales team entirely, and it frees up the rest of the year for serving your people instead of selling to them.

I also break down the retention numbers by membership type (content-only, community, coaching), share the screenshot my mentee Vanja sent me of her 2,000-plus member app, and walk you through the two-highlighter exercise I use with my own mentees to figure out what in your one-on-one work actually needs you, and what just needs structure.

Structure is what scales. Fewer offers, fewer funnels, fewer calls, less of you required in delivery, that is the business that gives you your life back.
